Volkswagen Polo 95 1.3 and 1.6 Single-Point Injection — Technical Data Sheet AUTO-VOLT N°718

Technical data sheet AUTO-VOLT N°718 (December 1995) covering the Volkswagen Polo introduced at the 1994 motor show, equipped with 1.3 and 1.6 litre single-point injection petrol engines. Details both the 1.3L engine (type ADX, 1,296 cc, 54 hp DIN at 5,200 rpm, 10.2 m.kg torque) and the 1.6L engine (type AEA, 1,598 cc, 75 hp DIN at 5,200 rpm, 13 m.kg torque). Four-cylinder inline transverse configuration with cast iron block and aluminium head mounted on a five-bearing crankshaft. Lubrication system utilises a gear pump fitted with pressure relief valve and dual oil pressure switches—brown (0.3 bar at idle) and grey (0.9 bar) or black (1.4 bar) at 2,000 rpm. At operating temperature (80°C), oil pressure reads 0.3 bar at idle rising to 2 bar at 2,000 rpm; capacity 3.5 L of SAE 5W50–20W50 API SF/SG oil. Cooling system employs a belt-driven centrifugal pump with a thermostat opening at 84°C and reaching full opening at 98°C with 7 mm minimum stroke. The bi-speed fan engages low speed between 92–97°C and disengages between 84–91°C, while high speed activates between 99–105°C and cuts out between 91–98°C. The VAG single-point injection system mounts directly on the intake manifold, integrating the fuel injector, throttle potentiometer, idle speed regulator, fuel pressure regulator, and air temperature sensor in one assembly; shares core architecture with the SEAT Ibiza 1.6. Canister purge solenoid valve is included.
